A youth softball association is taking a hard line against violence after a fight at a Sugar Land sports complex left a man unconscious, saying anyone it determines participated in the altercation will receive a lifetime ban from its events.
The United States Fastpitch Association (USFA) announced the decision in a statement following Saturday night’s confrontation at Imperial Park, where an argument over cheering during a youth softball game escalated into a physical fight involving adults.
“Our young athletes deserve better from all of us,” the association said. “USFA will continue to lead with one priority: providing a safe, positive environment for the athletes and families we serve.”
The association said violence has no place in youth sports and will not be tolerated. It also expressed support for the families affected by the incident.
Sugar Land police responded around 7:32 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, to Imperial Park, located at 7750 E. U.S. 90A, after receiving a report of an assault near baseball field No. 4, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Investigators said the confrontation began when Kiarious Hall, who was attending a game to cheer for his daughter’s team, got into an argument with another man over his cheering.
According to the affidavit, a second man approached during the dispute. Hall told police the second man poked him in the chest before Hall punched him in the face.
Investigators reviewed cellphone video that allegedly showed Hall striking the man with a metal water bottle before the man fell, hit his head on the sidewalk and lost consciousness. The affidavit also describes a physical fight involving Hall, the first man and Jazmine Hall, who investigators said threw punches to assist her husband.
Both Kiarious Hall and Jazmine Hall were arrested and taken to the Fort Bend County Jail.
Jazmine Hall was charged with misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury. She resigned from her position at Lamar Consolidated Independent School District effective Monday, Oct. 26, the district confirmed.
The affidavit provided did not specify a charge against Kiarious Hall. The Fort Bend District Attorney’s Office previously told KPRC 2 that prosecutors would need the injured man’s medical records to determine whether charges should be upgraded.
The affidavit did not establish the full extent of the man’s injuries.
USFA said its response would focus on protecting players and maintaining a safe environment for athletes and families.
The association did not identify the people it plans to ban in its statement. Its announcement says the lifetime bans will apply to those USFA determines participated in the physical altercation.
