Tesla video contradicts women’s robbery claim, both arrested for false report

Two women were arrested after deputies investigating a hit-and-run in Harris County reviewed Tesla surveillance footage and found inconsistencies in the women’s account of an alleged armed robbery, according to Constable Mark Herman’s Office.

Deputies responded Oct. 24 to the 1800 block of Laurel Valley Drive, where a Tesla owner reported that a blue Audi had struck the parked vehicle and left. The owner provided footage showing the collision and the Audi’s occupants leaving, the constable’s office said.

Deputies later spoke with Kenyarda Mesh Leavell and Portia Ellis, who reported that an armed man had entered their vehicle, threatened them with a gun and caused the crash. According to the office, Ellis later told investigators the robbery story was fabricated and that the women had left after the collision. Investigators said the women made up the account to avoid a possible DWI arrest.

Leavell and Ellis were booked into the Harris County Jail on charges of making a false report to police. Leavell was also charged with failure to stop and give information. The office said bond was set at $100 for each charge.
