SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- After calls for less talk and more action, San Francisco’s NAACP now says it believes the San Francisco Unified School District is committed to taking greater steps to address hate speech in the district and make everyone feel safe.
NAACP San Francisco President Emeritus Amos Brown says not only has the superintendent committed to enforcing board policy on hate-motivated behavior and hate speech, but she has also agreed to find the financing to establish an Afro-centric school in the district.
“It would be a quality academic experience that will enable Black and brown children who have been underserved to receive focused, loving, safe, educational opportunities in the San Francisco Unified School District, and that’s a big accomplishment,” Brown said.
Brown says the superintendent has also committed to continuing Unity Day, which brings together all students to learn about each other’s ethnic and historical backgrounds.
“They heard us, and that's something to be applauded,” Brown said.
