Federal authorities served a search warrant Tuesday morning at the Beverly Hills mansion of billionaire businessman Stephen Cloobeck in connection with an investigation into former U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell, two law enforcement sources familiar with the case told NBC News.
Details about the nature of the investigation and whether anything was seized from the home were not immediately available. An FBI spokesperson confirmed to NBC News that agents were executing a search warrant that remains under seal.
FBI sources told NBCLA no arrests were expected Tuesday at the location.
Video from outside the North Roxbury Drive home showed several FBI agents and yellow caution tape in front of the property.
Cloobeck, who backed Swalwell’s run for governor before sexual misconduct allegations surfaced against the Democrat politician, turned himself in earlier this year on charges that accuse him of trying to dissuade several witnesses from testifying in the criminal prosecution of his former fiancée, who is accused of stealing from several men she met online. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Cloobeck in April with three felony counts of attempting to dissuade a witness and one misdemeanor count of making “annoying telephone calls,” according to the criminal complaint.
Law enforcement sources confirmed the targets of the alleged calls were witnesses or victims in the prosecution of Cloobeck’s former fiancee, Adva Lavie — a model and social media influencer known online as “Mia Ventura.”
She was charged in November 2025 with eight felonies. A judge dismissed two of the charges at a preliminary hearing, and Lavie pleaded not guilty to the remaining six counts in April.
It was not immediately clear whether the warrants were served in connection with that investigation or the Swalwell case. NBCLA has reached out to law enforcement officials for more details.
Swalwell bowed out of the governor’s race and stepped down from his seat in the House after allegations of sexual misconduct earlier this year. Swalwell has denied the accusations.
Cloobeck withdrew his support of Swalwell in April. After the allegations came to light, Cloobeck said Swalwell had stayed with him at his Los Angeles-area home.
In August, the FBI searched Swalwell’s Washington, D.C. home and seized an electronic device, according to an official familiar with the matter. The FBI also executed a search warrant and took Swalwell’s electronic devices that same month at San Francisco International Airport.
Earlier this month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said its sex crimes unit is weighing whether to bring charges in a case involving Swalwell.
Swalwell was a one-time frontrunner in the race for governor. His departure opened a path for other June primary election Democrat contenders, including former Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra, who will face off against Republican Steve Hilton in the Nov. 3 general election.
